Introduction:

Professor Lu Guohui is one of the pioneers in clinical genetic counseling, prenatal genetic disease diagnosis, and hereditary tumors in China. In 1996, he participated in developing cancer genetic counseling in the United States; he was among the first Chinese scholars in the U.S. to obtain ABMG licensure/ACMG expert membership in 1996. He has 33 years of clinical and oncogenetic diagnostic experience in the U.S. In 2008, he served as the first ABMG-certified Director of Oncogenomic Diagnostics at MD Anderson Cancer Center in the U.S., where he established multiple cancer prevention and control programs, including a multiple myeloma cell enrichment instrument named after "LU," which tripled the diagnostic rate. He is also a member of the Genetic Counseling Branch of the Chinese Genetics Society.

● Authored 31 book chapters and published over 70 papers in world-renowned SCI journals

● One of the pioneers in China’s prenatal genetic disease diagnosis and genetic counseling

● Contributed to 9 medical genetics monographs, served as chief editor for:

● Prenatal Genetic Disease Diagnosis (published in 2002, awarded National Excellent Book Second Prize in 2003)

● Clinical Genetic Counseling (published in 2007)

● Nine Common Obstetric and Infant Diseases – From Prevention to Medical Genomics (published in 2009)

● Personally authored a proposal titled “Accelerating the Promotion of Healthy China and Developing Genetic Tumor Prevention and Control,” submitted to and filed by the National People’s Congress in 2023

Educational Background:

Graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 1982 from the former Sun Yat-sen Medical College. Went to study in the U.S. in early 1983, studied in the Prenatal Diagnosis Laboratory at Children’s Hospital, University of Southern California in 1984, and pursued a PhD at the Medical University of South Carolina in 1985. He subsequently worked at Boston University, Yale University, and the University of Connecticut, where he also completed postdoctoral training. In 1994, he became Deputy Director of Prenatal Diagnosis at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, concurrently teaching in the genetic counseling program and participating in the development of hereditary cancer genetic counseling in the U.S.
